In his address, the Deputy Prime Minister congratulated the newly elected British Members of Parliament of Pakistani origin. In the recent elections, 15 members of Pakistani origin were elected to the British Parliament, which is proof of the strength of British democracy and the success of British citizens of Pakistani origin.
The Deputy Prime Minister briefed the members of parliament on his government’s road map for the economic recovery of Pakistan. The political instability that started in 2018 derailed Pakistan’s economic momentum.
The previous government’s policy of appeasing and rehabilitating extremist groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban and the release of over 100 hardened terrorist convicts led to a resurgence of terrorism.
Center Ishaq Dar said that there can be no question of connection between those who attacked state institutions and used international forums to harm national interests. The government will not come under any pressure in this regard.
He said there is institutional support from all sides for economic reforms and the Special Investment Facilitation Council established by the government last year for foreign investors in Pakistan’s energy, mining, IT, and agriculture sectors.
The Deputy Prime Minister asked MPs for suggestions on how the government could attract British and foreign direct investment in Pakistan and increase bilateral trade volumes.
Besides, the Deputy Prime Minister thanked the British parliamentarians for raising the issue of the atrocities being inflicted on the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Gaza illegally occupied by India.
