LAHORE: The Punjab government has removed the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education (UE) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Alam Saeed from his post for allegedly refusing admission to a student on behalf of a senior Muslim League (N) leader.
Dr Saeed was appointed Pro Vice-Chairman for three years in October 2023 but had been holding the charge of Vice-Chairman since November due to the retirement of the regular head of the university, but his sudden removal has created a controversy.
Sources in the university alleged that Dr Muhammad Alam Saeed was removed from his post after a senior leader of the ruling Muslim League (N) refused to act on a student’s admission request. had refused to accede to the political leader’s demand, citing the incompleteness of the process, a refusal that reportedly angered the politician who asked the Department of Higher Education (HED) to remove Dr Saeed from the post. Dr. Alam Saeed expressed reservations over the reasons for his dismissal, saying that he was not informed of any complaint and was not called to appear before any inquiry committee.
He insisted that he had not violated any university regulations and suggested that his dismissal may have been the result of angering powerful people.
After completion of the official procedure, Dr. Alam Saeed was relieved of the duties of Interim Vice-Chancellor as well as Pro-Vice-Chancellor, later the additional charge was given to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal, who formally took charge of the University of Has assumed the post of Acting Vice Chancellor of Education.
