London: Britain will send 650 new missile systems to Ukraine to improve its air defenses.
The British government says the first batch of the Lightweight Multi-Role Missile (LMM) system, developed by French defense group Thales, will be delivered by the end of this year.
The 162 million pound ($213 million) package to Ukraine will be officially announced by British Defense Secretary John Haley today at a meeting of Ukraine’s Western allies in Germany.
“This new commitment will provide a significant boost to Ukraine’s air defenses and demonstrates our new government’s commitment to increasing support for Ukraine,” he said in a statement.
“In recent days we have seen the tragic cost of Russia’s indiscriminate attacks on Poltava and Lviv,” Defense Minister John Haley said.
He confirmed that according to the British Ministry of Defence, artillery ammunition worth 300 million pounds will also start arriving in Ukraine within a few months.
