ISLAMABAD: The federal government has taken important decisions in the context of the security situation in Balochistan under which the security forces will be able to pre-emptively detain any suspect suspected of terrorism.
The Federal Cabinet has decided to give special powers to the Pakistan Army, Civil Armed Forces, and the Government, for which the Cabinet approved the amendment of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
According to sources, there will be legislation to amend Section XI EEAE (11EEEE) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, which will provide legal protection to the security forces for more effective operations against terrorism.
Dawn sources have said that the security forces will be able to preemptively detain anyone suspected of terrorism and joint investigation teams comprising intelligence agencies, and law enforcers will be formed.
Sources added that those who pose a threat to national security will be detained, JITs will conduct comprehensive investigations, and information about terrorists will be collected.
