London: The British government has decided to ban 22 dangerous drugs, including the ‘zombie drug’ Zelizine, to stop drug-related deaths and crackdown on gangs, and announced legislation in this regard in Parliament.
In a statement issued by the UK Home Office on legislation to ban dangerous drugs, Zylazine, commonly known as ‘Trank’, is a dangerous animal drug that can be mixed with drugs. The series of doing is increasing.
The statement said that the drug is causing overdose deaths in the United States and the number of deaths has increased from 102 to 3,468 in just three years from 2018 to 2021.
It was further stated that the effects of the drug on the user are long-lasting and sometimes lay unconscious on the streets and cause non-healing skin lesions hence it is considered a ‘zombie drug’.
The Home Department said a draft law would be tabled in Parliament this week to regulate Zylazine as a Class C drug, based on recommendations from the Advisory Council on Misuse of Medicines.
Such measures have not yet been taken in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and other countries affected by Zylazine abuse, the statement said.
The British Home Office said the legislation would ban 22 harmful drugs, including Zylazine, six of which would be controlled as Class A drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
Those caught manufacturing and supplying Class A drugs can be punished with life imprisonment, a heavy fine, or both, the statement said.
