Islamabad: The protesting employees of Pak WD were dispersed by the police by shelling tear gas and dozens of protesters were arrested and taken to the police station.
Pak WD protestors protested against the possible closure of their department and announced a sit-in outside the National Press Club by blocking the Srinagar highway.
When the protestors reached the Srinagar highway, a heavy contingent of the federal police arrived and initially negotiated to disperse the protestors, but when they did not succeed, the police took action and then dispersed them by baton charging and shelling.
Apart from this, the police arrested dozens of protesters on the spot put them in vans, and transferred them to different police stations. The police dispersed the protesters and opened the Srinagar highway for traffic, after which the employees gathered in their office building.
According to the police officials, the protesters pelted stones at the police from inside the PWD building, injuring police officers and employees.
