“Hungary to give migrants free ticket to Brussels”

EU fined Hungary 200 million euros, court order to pay 1 million euros per day

BUDAPEST: A Hungarian minister has warned that his government is ready to give migrants and asylum seekers free one-way tickets to Brussels.

The statement by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s chief of staff, Gergely Gulyas, came in response to fines imposed on Hungary by the European Court of Justice over its strict asylum policies.

Speaking at a press conference, Gergely Golias criticized the court decision, which fined Hungary 200 million euros for continued violations of EU asylum rules. The court also ordered Hungary to pay up to one million euros per day in fines until it brings its asylum policies into line with EU law.

“Brussels wants to force us to let migrants into Hungary at any cost,” Gergely Goliash said, adding that if the EU continues to force Hungary to abide by regulations that “immigrants “It will not be possible to stop the homeland at the border”, so his government will provide free travel to Brussels for every immigrant.

“Hungary doesn’t want to pay a fine indefinitely daily,” Gergyli Goliath said. So we will allow people who want to come to Hungary to enter the country and then offer them a one-way ticket to Brussels. If Brussels wants migrants, it can keep them.”

The policies of the current Hungarian government have been anti-immigration and have adopted a strict attitude towards it. Hungary has built fences along its borders with Serbia and Croatia, including barbed wire.

Disagreeing with these tough policies, the European Union asked the 27-member bloc’s highest court to fine Budapest for forcing asylum seekers in Serbia and Ukraine to obtain travel permits from Hungarian embassies.

All EU countries are obliged to approve or reject asylum seekers’ applications under a set uniform procedure, and Hungary’s move violates the bloc’s rules.
