Germany: Age limit increase proposed for alcohol and TikTok

The minimum age for drinking alcohol should be set at eighteen years and for tik tok at twelve years

Frankfurt: The commissioner of the German government on the prevention of drug use has suggested that the minimum age for drinking alcohol in the country should be 18 years and 12 years for the use of TikTok. According to Commissioner Burkhard Blainert, he has given this advice to protect the mental and physical health of minors.

A few countries have already banned this video-sharing platform at the domestic level. However, the reason behind this ban was not the mental health of minors but other factors.

Burkhard Blainert further said that as a result of the proposed ban on the use of TikTok by minors under the age of twelve, children will better understand social media and be able to distinguish between right and wrong.

According to Commissioner Blainert, even teenagers should not be allowed to use TikTok freely. He explained that technical barriers should be used to ensure that those under the age of eighteen do not have access to material deemed dangerous. “If drugs and violence are presented as successful, we will have to take a closer look,” he said.
