Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board officials have planned to modernize the Gaddafi Stadium and change its name before the ICC Champions Trophy.
Earlier, in October 2022, the National Stadium in Karachi was named as National Bank Stadium under a five-year agreement, now in the same way, Gaddafi Stadium will also be named as sponsors.
According to sources, after the PCB issued a formal tender for renaming Gaddafi Stadium, a few sponsors have shown interest, initial paperwork has been completed but final approval is yet to be given.
Formerly known as Lahore Stadium, the stadium was renamed Gaddafi Stadium after the then Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi on 19 March 1972, the announcement was made by then Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in a rally, 20 Muammar Gaddafi died on October 2011.
