Islamabad: There is a shortage of police officers in the federal capital. Important positions have become vacant.
According to sources, many senior officers in Islamabad Police have been sidelined while junior officers have been promoted one grade higher. The work is being carried out by giving additional charge to the SPs. Two SPs have been given the charge of SP.
Police sources also say that other senior officers are not ready to join the Islamabad Police. Officers from DIG to SP occupy seats with additional charge. DIG Operations has a charge of one scale above. Senior officers are present in Islamabad Police, but operations division services are not being taken from these officers.
SSP Operations Arslan Shahzeb also has a scale-up charge. Shehzad Akbar has been given the charge of SP City, while Ali Raza, a junior officer of Police Service Grade 17, has been given two important posts. He has been posted as SP Industrial Area and SP Dolphin. There is apprehension among the officers over awarding juniors despite the presence of senior officers.
