LAHORE: The Passport and Immigration Department has failed to provide passports to more than 5 lakh people on time despite charging crores of rupees.
Earlier in the country, the passports with normal fees were received after several months’ delay, now the passports with urgent fees are also coming after one to two months. According to the sources of the Passport and Immigration Department, the number of Pakistanis going abroad has suddenly increased manifold due to the bad economic conditions of the country. Requests for making 50,000 new and renewed passports are being received daily from all over the country, including Lahore, while the Passport and Immigration Department can make only 25,000 passports per day.
According to sources, this is the reason why more than 5 lakh people across the country, including Lahore, are deprived of their passports despite paying crores of rupees as a fee. Only fast-track passports are being received in a week, whose fee is 20 to 27 thousand rupees. First, the ink in the passport ran out, then the problem of lamination paper occurred.
