London: There have been incidents of knife attacks on participants during the world’s largest street festival, Notting Hill Carnival, in which eight people were injured while police arrested hundreds of people.

Five people were injured in knife attacks on the final day of the Notting Hill Carnival, a three-day celebration of British Afro-Caribbean identity, London’s Metropolitan Police said.

Police said that three people were injured in the attacks on Sunday and the condition of the three injured in these attacks is critical.

The statement said that 230 people were arrested during the operation on Monday, of which 49 had weapons, and several people were detained earlier.

Firearms were also seized and 35 police officers were injured during the operations, the Metropolitan Police said.

According to the report, 10 incidents of knife attacks were reported at this festival last year and 300 people were arrested.

Thousands of festival-goers flock to the streets of West London, filling the grounds of Notting Hall and surrounding districts with color, dress, dance, and music.

According to the police, around 7,000 officers were deployed for the security of the festival as the three-day festival has seen incidents of mischief, but the majority of people participate peacefully.

Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelikan said he was tired of saying the same words every year that a woman with a child was among those injured in a knife attack.

It should be noted that the cultural connection of the Brits’ Afro-Caribbean celebration dates back to the 1950s when the former British colonists first arrived after the Second World War and is now celebrated differently every year.
