London: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Jay Shah, has been elected unopposed as the organization’s chairman.
Current ICC chairman Greg Barkley is not interested in running for a third term as chairman after Jay Shah takes over in December.
From heading the world’s richest cricket board to leading the ICC, the 35-year-old’s rapid rise reflects India’s dominance of the sport’s international administration.
In a country where sports and politics go hand in hand, his identity is the son of Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, who is a close associate of Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
