KARACHI: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi organized an event to pay homage to famous poet Ahmed Faraz.
In the ceremony, Zehra Nigah, Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Mazhar Abbas, Ghazi Salahuddin, Raza Siddiqui, Anbrin Haseeb Anbar and Fazil Jamili expressed their views while the Nizamat duties were performed by Shakeel Khan.
Zahra Nigha said in the presidential speech that it is a good thing, we remember those great people who leave literary treasures for us. Ahmed Faraz has also left us the gifts of beautiful and touching ghazals. There are very few poets whose value becomes in their lifetime. Ahmed Faraz was a lucky poet in that he was recognized in his lifetime.
Ghazi Salahuddin said that Ahmad Faraz’s words were simple but had a deep impact on the heart. Writing resistance poetry is not easy. Resistance poetry brings with it opposition. Ahmed Faraz bravely faced all the opposition.
Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui said that it is our good fortune that we are remembering such a great poet Ahmed Faraz. Ahmad Faraz’s romantic and resistance poetry are both very popular even today. He supported me every step. Ahmed Faraz knew all the requirements of the language of poetry. When the inner anxiety of a person and the anxiety reflected by society are in harmony, then a great poet becomes one.
Mazhar Abbas said that Ahmed Faraz emerged as a resistance poet. He made his mark in this period when famous poets like Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Josh Malih Abadi, and Habib Jalib were already there. The romantic element was also dominant in his poetry.
Anbarin Haseeb Anbar said that he was a person of high character. His temper was not impolite. The position achieved by Ahmed Faraz in Urdu poetry was achieved by very few poets. Ahmed Faraz was recognized by people in his lifetime. There is clear evidence of class struggle in his poetry. Hope, faith and the concept of a bright future are prominent in his speech. He was a progressive and humanitarian poet.
Raza Siddiqui said that Ahmed Faraz’s name was Ahmed Shah before, and because of the teasing of his friends, he became Ahmed Faraz. Faraz’s father was also a poet. Faraz’s poetry is like a clear river, in front of which Hasdin’s poetry is like muddy water. The poetry style of Faraz and Mir was unique. Faraz’s fame was also taken advantage of by other people.
