London: 3 million one-pound coins bearing the portrait of King Charles III of Great Britain have been released to banks and post offices.
On one side of the new coin is an image of the king, marking the reign of the new king, while on the other side is a pair of bees. Which shows the king’s love for nature.
Although coins featuring King Charles will be issued, older coins featuring Queen Elizabeth II will continue to be accepted.
New coins bearing the image of King Charles will be supplied on request.
As well as the one pound, the other new coins feature animals from red squirrels to capercaillie grouse and will feature flora and fauna on the sides of the coin.
Note that each coin is made in collaboration with the Royal Horticultural Society and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
The size and shape of the coins remained unchanged, which is important because of the still widespread use of coins in vending machines, supermarket self-checkouts, and parking meters.
But the numbers on the coins are capitalized to help children learn to recognize numbers and to count.
