London: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with traditional fervor at the Pakistan High Commission in London. The High Commissioner of Pakistan in the United Kingdom, Dr. Muhammad Faisal, hoisted the Pakistani flag to the tune of the national anthem. The special ceremony started with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the messages of the President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister were read out.
In his address, High Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Faisal paid tribute to the founders of Pakistan who fought and sacrificed for a homeland where Muslims of the subcontinent can live with dignity and pride. He paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for his selfless struggle for Pakistan and his resolve to realize Allama Iqbal’s dream for a strong and prosperous Pakistan.
Paying homage to the martyrs, the High Commissioner said that we owe our martyrs and veterans a debt that can never be repaid. The Ambassador of Pakistan reiterated Pakistan’s support at every forum for the Kashmiri and Palestinian brothers who are struggling for their right to self-determination.
He acknowledged the hard work, dedication, and passion of British Pakistanis who are in bridging Pakistan and Britain.
Dr. Muhammad Faisal said that the story of Pakistan is still being written by those brave men and women who defend the sovereignty of Pakistan on every front. Dr. Muhammad Faisal reiterated his commitment to continue working together in unity and harmony to build a prosperous, strong, and peaceful Pakistan.
During the ceremony, the High Commissioner conferred civil awards on behalf of the President of Pakistan to Asif Rangoonwala, Dr. Javed Ahmed Sheikh, Prof. Muhammad Amjad Shad, and MP Khalid Mehmood.
On this occasion, a special tribute was also paid to the brave Pakistani youth, Abdullah, who bravely fought off an assailant in London’s Leicester Square and saved the lives of a mother and a baby girl from a knife attack. Honors were cited for Pakistan’s first javelin Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem.
Later, the High Commissioner, his wife, and guests cut the cake to celebrate Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day.
The ceremony was attended by British MPs, diplomats, Pakistani community members, media representatives, and Pakistani High Commission officials along with the families.
