Dhaka: Thousands of Hindus living in Bangladesh have tried to migrate to India through the Indian border.
Security officials say that this incident took place several days after the overthrow of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina organized by the student leadership.
Following Sheikh Hasina Wajid’s ouster, some businesses and homes owned by a group of Hindus considered close to her in the Muslim-majority country of Bangladesh were attacked.
Amit Kumar Tyagi, Deputy Inspector General of India’s Border Security Force (BSF), told AFP that hundreds of Bangladeshi citizens, mostly Hindus, had gathered at various points along the Indian border with Bangladesh.
He further said that more than 200 people have been seen standing near the Indian border in the state of West Bengal.
