DHAKA: Lawyers in Bangladesh have given an ultimatum to the judges of the higher judiciary, including the Chief Justice and judges of the Appellate Division, to resign within 24 hours.
The Supreme Court Bar Association has demanded the immediate resignation of all “political and partisan” judges of the Supreme Court, including Chief Justice of Bangladesh Obaidul Hasan.
On Thursday, the lawyers’ organization Lawyers Against Discrimination Coordination Council marched in Bangladesh demanding the resignation of the Chief Justice and judges.
According to the Bangladeshi newspaper Dhaka Tribune, the lawyers associated with the said organization belong to the largest opposition party Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami.
According to the report, in March, the lawyers demanded the resignation of Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan and all judges of the Appellate Division.
Hundreds of lawyers including former president of Dhaka Bar Association Advocate Mohsin Mian, former president Khurshid Alam, former general secretary Umar Farooq, and former secretary Khurshid Mian Alam participated in the demonstration.
