DHAKA: The angry public and employees of Bangladesh State Bank stormed the Deputy Governor’s room and pressured him to resign.
According to the Dhaka Tribune, Deputy Governor Qazi Syed-ur-Rehman resigned due to public and employee protests, after which the angry crowd made other Deputy Governors Noroon Nahar, Muhammad Khurshid Alam and Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman sign blank papers.
Later, the bank’s advisor Abu Farah Nasir, and Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) chief Masood Biswas were also asked to resign, and all senior officers were appointed on a contract basis.
Officials and employees of the government bank declared these officers undesirable in the central bank and appointed the executive director Zakir Hussain Chaudhary as the responsible officer of the bank and announced to obey only his orders.
It should be noted that since the end of Sheikh Hasina’s government, Central Bank Governor Abdul Rauf has not yet returned to the bank.
