The unanimous decision to release Khaleda Zia, head of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, in the summit held by President Shahabuddin

Dhaka: A few hours after the resignation of the former prime minister and the army taking power, Bangladesh President Muhammad Shahabuddin ordered the release of the jailed former prime minister and main opposition leader Khaleda Zia.
In a statement issued by the President, it was said that in the meeting chaired by Shahabuddin, it was unanimously decided to immediately release Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The meeting was attended by Army Chief General Waqar-ul-Zaman, Chiefs of Navy and Air Force, leading leaders of various opposition parties including Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami.
The meeting also decided to release all those who were arrested during the student protest.
