Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemns anti-immigration protests in Britain

Dr. Akhtar Gulfam / Director News, Dawn TV + Daily Dawn

London: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has condemned the attack on a hotel during anti-immigration protests and violent demonstrations by right-wing protesters.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that strict action will be taken against those who spread tension according to the law.

Protests erupted in the UK last week after three girls were killed in a knife attack at a children’s dance class in Southampton, and the incident last week was pounced on by anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant groups as fake news that the attacker was an immigrant and Muslim.

The British police said that the attacker is a citizen of British origin and does not consider this incident terrorism.

However, the protests spread across the UK and other parts of the country, including Liverpool, Bristol, and Manchester, led to dozens of arrests as protesters ransacked and looted shops and other businesses. Police personnel were also injured.

Also on Sunday, anti-immigration protesters gathered near a hotel near Rotherham, which Britain’s Home Office said was housing refugees.

Masked protesters pelted stones at the police broke hotel windows and set fire to trash cans, pushing the police towards the hotel.

The British Prime Minister said in the condemnation statement that I condemn these actions of the right-wing miscreants, who have become part of this tension should not be under any misconception because the law will deal with them strictly.

He said that people are being targeted based on color, race, and creed in these protests and such chaos cannot be allowed on the streets of Britain.

Keir Starmer said that whatever the motivation behind these protests seemed to be, it was a criminal act and not a protest.
