Toronto: Canadian authorities have uncovered the plot to kill Sikh activist Gurptunat Singh Pannu. A few months ago, the Indian secret agency RAW’s plan to kill Pannu in America was also exposed.
Recent reports from various US and Canadian media have mentioned a police raid in Brampton, Ontario, Canada on November 3, 2023, in which 5 people were arrested for weapons possession.
The arrest of the five men came a day before the wedding of the son of a prominent Sikh freedom movement leader in Toronto, which was expected to be attended by several prominent figures, including New York-based lawyer Gurpatwant Singh Pannu.
In addition to 21-year-old Swaranpreet Singh, the arrested accused include Jobanpreet Singh (21 years), Maninder Singh (22 years) and Ramanpreet Singh (30 years). According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), the fifth person Amandeep Singh accused of involvement in a murder, Canada has linked the killing directly to the government of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Indian national Amandeep Singh was arrested by Canadian authorities in 2023, four and a half months after the murder of separatist Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nagar, president of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, in the city of Vancouver.
Khalistan Tehreek supporter Hardeep Singh Nagar was shot dead on June 18, 2023, in the parking lot of a Gurdwara.
Since the men’s arrests, Indian and Canadian intelligence officials have met several times to exchange information, Bloomberg reported, and more arrests have been made, possibly in connection with another assassination plot. It points to India’s involvement.
