Britain’s announcement to withdraw the petition filed against Netanyahu’s arrest warrant, the British government’s decision rejected by Jewish organizations

London: Britain’s new Labor Party government has announced that it is withdrawing an application filed by the former Conservative Party government against the ongoing arrest warrants of the International Court of Justice for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yuva Gallant.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s spokesperson told the media that the new government will withdraw the application filed against the International Court of Justice decision because we have long held that this is a matter for the court and that will be the decision.

He said that the British government strongly believes in the rule of law and devolution of powers both at the national and international levels.
It should be noted that in May of this year, the International Court of Justice issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yuva Gallant for their role in war crimes, and similar warrants were also issued against three leaders of Hamas.

Later, the British Conservative government of that time filed a petition in the court and took the position that Palestine cannot demand criminal limitations on Israeli citizens under the Oslo Accords, so in such a case, can the International Court of Justice apply its jurisdiction over Israelis.

However, as a result of the recent general elections in Great Britain, the Labor Party formed its government by defeating the Conservative Party, and now Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced the withdrawal of the said request.

The decision of the new British government has been rejected by some Jewish organizations based in the UK and the Jewish Leadership Council called it a harsh decision and expressed its concern that this signaled a change in British policy while Israel is a British ally.
