LONDON: United Kingdom’s Appellate Court has ordered the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan to pay 65,000 pounds (about Rs 23,333,855 or about Rs 23.3 million) to MQM leader and founder Altaf Hussain as legal expenses before July 30, 2024.

Altaf Hussain won a two-day hearing in the Appellate Court against his former devotees in MQM Pakistan who had defected from him in August 2016. The Court of Appeal Civil Division has ordered MQMP to pay £65,000, according to an order issued by the court following a unanimous three-judge decision to set aside the verdict.

Generally, courts order the losing party to make such payments to claimants or the winning party when such requests are opposed by defendants.

The court also allowed Altaf Hussain to release £77,760 into his lawyer’s account, which Hussain was asked to deposit earlier when the single bench judge ruled against him.

MQM spokesman Mustafa Azizabadi said Altaf Hussain will soon pay more than £100,000 in court for legal costs incurred during the first part of the trial against MQM Pakistan before insolvency and companies judge Clive Jones. Will file a claim.

MQM Pakistan leader and claimant in the case Syed Aminul Haque told Naji TV that he would instruct his lawyer in London to comply with the court orders.

The former federal law minister said that we are a party governed by law, we will obey the court orders, we clearly won the case before the bankruptcy and companies judge Clive Jones and we will win again, MQM. London is pretending the case is over.
