Dhaka: After a few days of protests in Bangladesh, a curfew has been imposed across the country and the army has been deployed to assist the police.
Due to the growing tension in the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has canceled her foreign visits.
Internet services have been suspended since Thursday and overseas telephone calls are also difficult to receive, leaving Bangladesh disconnected from the outside world.
In Bangladesh, for the past several days, students have been protesting against the quota system in government jobs across the country, in which 105 people have died and many have been injured.
The recent protests have become a major challenge for Sheikh Hasina’s authoritarian regime after 15 years in office as the prime minister.
A nationwide curfew was imposed late on Friday night, while the Prime Minister’s Office has also called in the army to assist the police.
