Rome: A female journalist has been sentenced to pay 5,000 euros for insulting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The case of a journalist making fun of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on social media was heard in the court of Milan, Italy.
Female journalist Julia Cortez was accused of mocking Prime Minister Georgia Maloney’s height in one of her tweets.
After being found guilty, the court ordered the female journalist to pay 5,000 euros in damages to Prime Minister Georgia Maloney.
The court said in the decision that female journalist Julia Cortez has the right to appeal against this sentence.
A lawyer for the Italian prime minister said his client would donate the damages to a charity.
In her tweet, Julia Cortez addressed Georgia Maloney and said you can’t threaten me because you are only 4 feet tall which is why I can’t even see you.
It should be noted that the tweet mocking the Italian Prime Minister was made in October 2021 and a female journalist was also fined 1200 euros for another similar post.
After hearing the sentence, the female journalist wrote on social media that it was a difficult time for independent journalists in Italy. Hope for better days ahead. We will not give up.
It should be remembered that this is not the first case of the Italian Prime Minister dragging journalists to court.
Last year, a Rome court ordered best-selling author Roberto Saviano to pay a fine of 1,000 euros plus legal costs.
