Islamabad: With the decision to give reserved seats to PTI, the ruling coalition lost its two-thirds majority and PTI’s chances of becoming the single largest party in the National Assembly became bright.
The number of members of the Sunni Unity Council in the National Assembly is 84, while 8 independent members supported by PTI are also present in the National Assembly, making the total number of members supported by PTI is 92.
In light of the Supreme Court’s decision, 20 women seats and 4 minority seats will be given to PTI, which is likely to increase the number of PTI members to 116 in the National Assembly. PML-N is the second largest party with 108 seats while Pakistan People’s Party is the third largest party in the National Assembly with 68 seats. MQM 21, JUIF 8, Muslim League-Q 5, Stability Party 4 while Muslim League Zia, Balochistan National Party, National Party, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, and MWM have one member each in the National Assembly.

The decision of the Supreme Court on reserved seats will have a direct impact on the center as well as the province where PTI will get 24 seats for women and 3 for non-Muslims in the Punjab Assembly. Sindh Assembly will have 2 women and one non-Muslim while KP Assembly will get 21 women and 4 minority seats.

On the other hand, the Supreme Court decision deprived the ruling coalition of a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly. In the light of the decision of the Supreme Court, the total number of members of the government alliance parties will be 208 while the number of members of the opposition parties will be 128.
