Khadim Hussain

KARACHI: Flour mills are going on strike today across the country, including Karachi, due to which there is a fear of a flour crisis due to the stoppage of supply.

The Pakistan Flour Mills Association has started a nationwide strike against the withholding tax, including in Karachi, and flour mills across the country have stopped grinding wheat from today.

Chairman Pakistan Flour Mills Association South Aamir Abdullah says that from today we have started a strike for an indefinite period, under which flour mills across the country, including Karachi, have stopped the supply of flour. He said that during this time the supply of buffalo colonies and animal bran will also be badly affected.

Aamir Abdullah said that due to the implementation of withholding tax, flour will be expensive by 8 to 10 rupees per kg. The grinding process in flour mills will be stopped until demand is accepted. Flour millers cannot become withholding agents. Tax collection is the government’s job, not ours. We are already paying tax and can give more, only procedural objection.

Meanwhile, flour mills are on strike due to supply disruption across the country, fearing a flour crisis.

Meanwhile, more than 250 flour mills have been closed in all districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, on behalf of flour mill owners. In the first phase, washing was stopped in all flour mills of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a result of the declaration of a strike by the flour mill owners against the increase in two holding taxes, and wheat grinding and flour supply in the market from today. has been closed.

Banners of the closure of mills and protest strikes have been displayed on the outer gates of flour mills. Likewise, flour vendors have also sat in protest in the markets. Group leader Flour Mills Association Muhammad Naeem Butt says that until the federal government abolishes the withholding tax on flour, MDI rate increases in electricity bills. The Flour Mills Association will continue the strike indefinitely until the government lift the ban on the free movement of wheat from Punjab.
