ISLAMABAD: Contempt of court proceedings have started on the social media campaign related to Islamabad High Court Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, a seven-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Amir Farooq has issued notices to Ghareeda Farooqui, Hasan Ayub and Amar Solangi.
The Islamabad High Court, taking major action on the social media campaign related to Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri, constituted a seven-member larger bench and started contempt of court proceedings.
All Islamabad High Court judges except Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri are on the bench, the contempt proceedings have been described as an institutional response to the social media campaign.
At the beginning of the full court hearing, Chief Justice Amir Farooq said that the court has explained many times but no one has learned the lesson, the campaign against the judges is not tolerable in any case. ?
Advocate General Islamabad said that if the judge’s answer comes, the government will take action accordingly.
The Chief Justice said, are the judges left to answer such questions? Shall we also call a press conference? Not afraid of accountability but will not tolerate campaigns against judges, will not spare anyone found responsible, will spend summers in Adiala Jail.
Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb remarked that there is an impression that you people are allowing this. The Law Minister, the Information Minister, and the Attorney General are all silent, the impression is that you people are behind it.
The court issued notices to Ghareeda Farooqui, Amar Solangi, and Hasan Ayub and asked DGFIA to determine those responsible for the campaign against Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri. Further hearing of the case will be held after summer vacation.
