Lahore: The move to exempt bureaucrats and military officials from tax was challenged in the Lahore High Court.
The federal government and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have been made parties to the petition filed in the Lahore High Court on behalf of citizen Mishkoor Hussain through the mediation of Nadeem Sarwar Advocate.
It has been argued in the petition that the federal government has given great relief to the bureaucracy and military officials in the budget. Bureaucrats and military officials are exempted from paying income tax on property sales. All citizens are equal under the Constitution, exemption from taxation is against Article 2 of the Constitution.
The petition has prayed that Section 236C of the Income Tax Ordinance be declared illegal by amending the Finance Act and that the operation of Section 236C be stayed pending the final decision of the petition.
