Muzaffarabad: Twenty prisoners escaped from Azad Kashmir’s Rawalakot Jail, one of whom was killed in a police encounter, while all routes have been blocked to search for the remaining 19.
According to sources, the escaped prisoner Ghazi Shehzad was a member of a banned organization and wanted by India.
According to the sources, the incident of escape of prisoners in Rawalakot jail took place today between two and half past two. Meanwhile, one of the prisoners took the sentry at the main gate hostage at gunpoint and the rest of the prisoners ran away.
A prisoner was injured in police firing and died while being taken to the hospital. The leader of the escaped prisoners was Ghazi Shahzad, an affiliate of a banned organization and a resident of Gadala Palindri, who was arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department and handed over to the police.
The police have cordoned off the entire district to search for the escaped prisoners and have put security on high alert throughout the district.
