KABUL: Local media in Afghanistan have reported that the Central American country of Nicaragua has appointed its ambassador to Afghanistan in an unusual move to boost ties with the diplomatically isolated Taliban government.
Michael Campbell, currently Nicaragua’s ambassador to China, will assume additional responsibilities from his office in Beijing.
“We thank the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the people, and the government for giving this honor to our colleague Michael Campbell,” Nicaraguan Vice President Rosario Morillo said Friday, according to pro-government news outlet EL19 Digital.
