The Islamabad High Court suspended the Election Commission’s order to change the Islamabad Election Tribunal, while Muslim League (N) Member National Assembly Anjum Aqeel Khan apologized to the Islamabad High Court, but the High Court issued him a contempt of court notice.
The case against the new election tribunal was heard in the Islamabad High Court.
Chief Justice Amir Farooq asked the Additional Attorney General how would defend this ordinance. What kind of sky was falling that the Acting President issued an ordinance overnight, abolishing the parliament and running the government through ordinances, you guys have set up an ordinance factory, one is a wow factory and the other is an ordinance factory. They want to make weapons, you make ordinances, what was the bias against the judge that the election commission saw?
The court inquired that Anjum Aqeel Khan had requested the Election Commission to change the tribunal. Please explain to me what is written, what is the meaning of these words, and what is prejudice.
Anjum Aqeel Khan apologized and said that I also admit that my English is weak, this is the legal language, I have signed, the judges are respectful to us, this is my mistake, I have signed without reading these words. Apologies, applied for a transfer of case.
The court asked that they were not accepting your recommendation, is that why you wanted to change them?
Anjum Aqeel Khan replied that I did not recommend it.
The Chief Justice of the High Court said that the text of your petitions says that the judge is biased, we are also sitting here, why did all this? Anjum Aqeel Khan replied that there was a mistake in the choice of words not used intentionally.
The Islamabad High Court suspended the Election Commission’s tribunal change order and reinstated the tribunal comprising Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri.
The High Court while issuing a show cause notice to Anjum Aqeel Khan said that Anjum Aqeel Khan could not explain the words used in the petition on the inquiry of the court. The hearing of the case was adjourned till July 9.
