Islamabad: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan approached the Supreme Court for an early hearing of the pending appeal against his disqualification.
According to Dawn TV, the application was filed by Imran Khan’s lawyer Ali Zafar.
The position adopted in the petition is that Imran Khan is the former Prime Minister and the head of the largest political party. Cases are pending in the Islamabad and Lahore High Courts, the proceedings in the High Courts are not progressing due to the pending case in the Supreme Court.
It is stated that due to these cases, the petitioner is not able to be elected as a Member of the Assembly, and the petitioner cannot participate in the by-elections due to the pending appeal.
It has been requested in the petition that the appeal against the disqualification of PTI founder Imran Khan be fixed for an early hearing.
It should be noted that on January 6, Islamabad High Court’s decision to remove Imran Khan from the party chairmanship was challenged in the Supreme Court by the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.
It has been requested in the petition that the decision of Islamabad High Court on 6th December 2023 should be annulled, if the decision is not annulled then the case should be ordered to be transferred to Lahore High Court.
It is further stated that the Election Commission’s decision to remove him from the assembly membership and party chairmanship was challenged in the Lahore High Court, while the case was being heard in the Lahore High Court, an application was also filed in the Islamabad High Court. Requested the Islamabad High Court to withdraw the application.
