Washington: US President Joe Biden has opened the way for illegal immigrants who marry US citizens to get citizenship.
According to the Voice of America report, President Joe Biden announced the granting of citizenship to illegal immigrants who marry American citizens.
The new immigration policy announced Tuesday will make it easier for spouses of U.S. citizens living in the U.S. illegally to apply for permanent residency or a green card.
The measure would benefit nearly 500,000 couples and 50,000 children whose parents were married to a US citizen. According to a White House fact sheet, to be eligible for the policy, any immigrant national must have lived in the US for 10 or more years and be legally married to a US citizen by June 17, 2024.
After the Department of Homeland Security reviews the immigrant application, approved individuals will have three years to apply for permanent residence.
