MUMBAI: Afghanistan’s consul general in India has reportedly resigned after being accused of smuggling 25 kg of gold worth around INR 18 crore from Dubai into India.
According to British news channel OK TV, Zakia Wardak cited the reason for her decision as “personal attacks and defamation and the public narrative unfairly targeting the only female representative in this system”.
Zakia Wardak was stopped at the Mumbai airport by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in the last week of April and gold was recovered from her. Reports said gold was seized and a case was registered but he was not arrested as he had diplomatic immunity.
