London: 24 people who sexually assaulted 8 girls in Britain were sentenced to 30 years in prison.
The accused were charged in court in 2022, after which the brutal accused were sentenced today. The ban on revealing the identity of the accused was lifted, after which the names and photographs of the accused were also revealed.
Among those sentenced, 42-year-old Khurram Raziq got 22 years, 46-year-old Nasir Hussain 18 years, 44-year-old Zafar Qayyum 30 years, 47-year-old Ansar Qayyum 20 years, 43-year-old Muhammad Jabar Qayyum 13 years, 45-year-old Muhammad Imranzada. 15 years, 37-year-old Michael Birkinshaw 8 years, 40-year-old Imran Mehrban 13 years, 38-year-old Sarkot Yasin 15 years, 48-year-old Muhammad Salim Nasir 19 years, 37-year-old Irfan Khan 12 years, 39-year-old Umar Farooq Hussain. 18 years, 40-year-old Sarfraz Hussain Riaz 15 years, 38-year-old Zafar Iqbal 17 years, 38-year-old Nasir Iqbal 10 years, 47-year-old Muhammad 17 years, 42-year-old Bilal Patel 13 years, 53-year-old Asif Ali 24 years. Sentenced to one-year imprisonment.
Similarly, 39-year-old Muhammad Tauseef Hanif was sentenced to 9 and a half years, 38-year-old Ali Shah was sentenced to 10 years, 38-year-old Moshin Nidat was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years, 49-year-old Sarfraz Meeraf was sentenced to four and a half years, 38-year-old Muhammad Nizam Nasir was sentenced to seven years and 45-year-old Amir Ali Hussain was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Police have described the abuse, which includes crimes such as rape and trafficking, as abhorrent.
The convictions follow an investigation into the sexual abuse of eight girls in the north Kirklees area between 1999 and 2012.
Police said the operation was centered around the British cities of Batley and Dewsbury.
West Yorkshire Police said during the trial the jury heard shocking details of the crime, which revealed victims were abused and trafficked.
Arrests were made across West Yorkshire in late 2018 and the accused were charged in December 2020.
West Yorkshire Police’s DTCH Inspector Oliver Coates said that Asif Ali, who had committed 14 rapes alone, carried out a horrific sexual assault on a scale that was beyond belief.
