KARACHI: Policemen of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) have been dismissed from their jobs for kidnapping civilians for a short period.
On Friday, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CTD dismissed these four policemen.
A citizen had registered a case against CTD officials at Karachi Tipu Sultan Police Station.
In his application, the citizen told the police that he was abducted by unknown plainclothes persons and released for a ransom of four lakh rupees.
According to the plaintiff in this case, the accused introduced themselves as CTD officials and kept them in custody at the Garden Police Headquarters along with other persons.
A journalist who was among the abducted citizens introduced himself to the policemen and told them that he was associated with the media, after which the accused released him with instructions to keep quiet about the incident.
The police initiated action on the plea of the plaintiff and issued show-cause notices to the officials involved in the incident.
The accused could not give a satisfactory answer to the committee formed by the police, after which the committee submitted the report to the DIG.
DIG CTD Asif Ijaz Sheikh dismissed three ASIs including the sub-inspector and assistant sub-inspector of CTD in the light of the report.
The report of the committee states that CTD officials Sub-Inspector Rafiqat Ali, Assistant Sub-Inspector Jahanzeb, ASI Liaqat Ali, and ASI Muhammad Haris detained the citizens illegally and demanded money from them.
