The PML-N government in Pakistan’s Punjab province is facing severe backlash on many fronts simultaneously.
On the one hand, nanbai and tandoori people seem unable to obey this order due to the price of bread, on the other hand, chicken sellers have also gone on strike. Their position is that chicken cannot be sold at the prices set by the government.
The third front is that of the farmers, where wheat is being sold at a much lower price than the government-fixed price during the wheat season. The farmers are protesting that the price has fallen due to the provincial government’s announcement to buy less wheat.
In these three cases, the opposition is criticizing Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and also questioning her governance model.
The machinery of the entire province has been set in motion to reduce the price of bread from 20 rupees to 16 rupees on behalf of the Chief Minister of Punjab.
PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif was also seen checking the price of bread on tandoors along with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday.
On the other hand, the government has started filing cases against the members of the non-buying association on the statement of non-implementation of this price.
Similarly, oven owners who are not selling bread at the price set by the government are being arrested during raids by government teams. So far more than 400 people have been arrested.
