Bahawalnagar: Punjab Police has condemned ‘fake propaganda’ after videos of alleged torture of police personnel by Pakistani army officers in Bahawalnagar district went viral on social media.
In a statement released on the social networking site X, the Punjab Police said that the case of Bahalingar, which went viral on social media, has been out of context and exaggerated.
A day ago, several videos went viral on social media showing people dressed in army uniforms allegedly beating up policemen in Bahawalnagar.
In one video, a man was seen sitting on the ground with a bloody nose, while another clip showed a man and two military personnel forcing policemen to kneel in a row.
Some social media users claimed that the incident started after the police recovered illegal arms from a soldier’s relative.
The Don could not independently verify the authenticity of the viral video clips on social media.
Politicians expressed outrage over the viral video clips, PTI leader Hamad Azhar said that the Punjab police chief should have resigned immediately after the incident, claiming that the provincial government had handled the matter. Not taking ‘seriously’.
PTI spokesperson Rauf Hasan said the incident “requires a transparent and comprehensive inquiry and its report should be released without any redaction”.
In a statement issued last night, the police said that the incident is being presented as if there was a fight between the Pakistan Army and the Punjab Police.
