London: According to the British news agency Reuters, McDonald’s is buying back 225 restaurants in Israel, which employs 5,000 people, from the owner of the franchise called Elonel Limited. The American fast food chain McDonald’s has launched a worldwide boycott campaign. has decided to buy back its 30-year-old Israeli franchise after the US fast-food chain has been facing boycotts since Israel attacked Gaza. In October 2023, Israeli McDonald’s franchise Alvinal announced that it would donate free food to the Israeli army.
According to Reuters, McDonald’s is a global brand whose franchises are usually given to local companies that operate independently.
McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczynski said in January that McDonald’s in the Middle East and beyond is also facing a severe backlash from the boycott.
