AMSTERDAM: Police evacuated 150 homes for safety after people were taken hostage at a nightclub in the central Netherlands, and after hours of efforts, police were able to free the hostages.
An hours-long hostage drama at a nightclub in the central Netherlands has ended, with all hostages freed and a suspect arrested, Dutch police said.
The incident took place in a nightclub in Edi City. As soon as the news spread that some people were taken hostage in the nightclub, the policemen along with the anti-bomb squad team reached the spot and cordoned off the area. A hundred and fifty houses were evacuated, and it was said that there was a person in the area who could pose a threat to them or others. After several hours of efforts and negotiations with the suspect who took people hostage, three hostages were released in the morning, while the last hostage was also released at the end of the day, while the suspect was arrested. Mayor René Verholst described the incident as a “horrific situation”.
