Peshawar: 24 government universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are without a vice-chancellor, while 34 are facing severe financial crisis. For the last two years, 20 universities could not appoint a vice-chancellor. Almost all the universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which are run under the government’s patronage, are constantly facing financial crises. Along with the teachers in these universities, administrative staff are also seen protesting daily on the streets. For the past two years, the federal and provincial governments have reduced attention to the universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and reduced the funds required for their needs. Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali has visited more than a dozen universities so far, but he could not solve the problems of any university so far. The institutions managed by the federal government have reduced the grants allotted to the universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after 2018. Similarly, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has also not given provincial grants to many other new universities, including Agricultural University Peshawar, due to which they are facing difficulties.

Along with financial difficulties, 20 universities are also missing a permanent vice chancellor for a long time. The historical University of Peshawar, University of Agriculture, University of Engineering Islamia College, and many other universities suffering from financial problems are facing the non-appointment of the Vice-Chancellor. Due to various difficulties, teachers and management are often seen protesting on the streets for salary and other facilities.
