London: Ramadan is gradually becoming a high-level event even in Christian-majority or Western countries, where whites have started to paint themselves in the color of Ramadan. Last year, London became the first major European city to decorate a major road with Ramadan lights. This year, Frankfurt am Main followed London and became the first major city in Germany to put up Ramadan lighting. All members of the community are invited to eat, whether they are fasting or not. According to the organizers, the number of people participating in this event is increasing every year. “I didn’t expect so many non-Muslims to be here,” a person who joined the iftar gathering told the local newspaper, “Kline Siting.” Research on Islamophobia at Georgetown University in Washington “Ramadan also plays an important role in increasing the political identity and equality of Muslims at the public level,” says Fareed Hafeez, senior researcher at the Burj Initiative, a project that does this. What has raised the profile of the holy month? Muslims spend more during Ramadan on everything from gifts and clothes to food and even cars. Ramadan 2023 spending in the Middle East alone was over $60 billion. Advertisements made for the month of Ramadan have also changed and are increasing. These ads are now reaching beyond potential target communities.
