ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission has confirmed the news of joining the Muslim League (Q) of the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-a backed member of the National Assembly, Muhammad Ilyas Chaudhry, who was elected as an independent from National Assembly Constituency NA-62. Former member of the National Assembly of Muslim League (N) Abid Raza Kotla (who was also a candidate for the same seat) wrote a letter to the Election Commission on February 27 last month in which the officially elected members of the National Assembly of Muslim League (Q) The names were called for. In response, in the list released by the Election Commissioner on March 7, four members of the Muslim League (Q) National Assembly (Muhammad Ilyas Chaudhry who was elected as an independent from NA-62, Chaudhry Hussain Elahi from NA-63, NA-64) The names of Chaudhry Salik Hussain from NA-165 (Bahawalpur) and Tariq Bashir Cheema from NA-165 (Bahawalpur) were included. District Election Commissioner of Gujarat Khalid Mehmood also confirmed the reply letter written by the Election Commission of 2 PTI-supported independent candidates Chaudhry Ilyas (NA-62) and Shahid Raza Kotla (PP-28). A notification was issued to win the general elections held on February 8. The news of Chaudhry Ilyas joining the Muslim League (Q) came to light when the Election Commission on its website announced that apart from the three members who won on the ticket of the Muslim League (Q) and one independent member of the National Assembly, the Muslim League ( Q) mentioned joining. However, it was later learned that Ilyas Chaudhry had already submitted an affidavit of joining the Muslim League (Q) instead of following the PTI’s decision to have its members join the Sunni Ittehad Council. Abid Raza Kotla said that he had written a letter to the Election Commission to clarify the picture before the public regarding the political affiliation of his opponent. He said that the Muslim League (Q) had decided to support the candidate of Muslim League (N) Mian Shahbaz Sharif in the election of the Prime Minister, but Chaudhry Ilyas violated the decision and nominated the Sunni Ittehad Council for the Prime Ministership. Voted in favor of the nominated candidate (Umar Ayub).
