Striking staff at national airline Lufthansa and rail operator Deutsche Bahn have demanded higher pay. The situation forced millions of affected citizens to resort to alternative means. Germany’s long-distance and regional rail networks were brought to a standstill after train drivers staged a 35-hour strike to demand higher wages. On the other hand, the ground staff of Lufthansa also started a two-day strike. The national airline is expected to be able to operate only 10 to 20 percent of its original flight schedule.
