London: A child labor survey was conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the support of UNICEF, according to which a large number of children are working hard instead of studying in schools. The findings of this survey were presented in a ceremony in Peshawar. were conducted in which the representatives of UNICEF and the International Labor Organization along with the relevant labor organizations also participated. On the streets of Peshawar, you must have seen children begging, cleaning car windows with water bottles and wipers, and children under the age of 18 working in various car workshops in the city. For research on this matter, a UNICEF survey has been conducted in 32 districts of the province. According to this survey, 11% of the 8 million children between the ages of five and 17 years work in the province. 88% of them are forced to do child labor. This means that out of every 100 children in the province, 11 children are working in different places while more than 73% of these working children are doing manual labor. Most children are involved in child labor in the Bannu district. while the lowest child labor is in Dera Ismail Khan. However, according to the survey, child labor is less in families with higher education as compared to families in which anyone has completed primary or middle education. According to the survey, more than 52 percent of the laborers work in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing industries. Similarly, the second most (19 percent) children are engaged in fetching water, while about 10 percent of child laborers are engaged in wholesale and trading. According to the survey regarding these working children, more than 43 percent of children do not go to school and 22 percent of them were children whose parents could not afford the education expenses, while the parents of more than 20 children said that there are better school facilities. do not have. The survey also revealed that 16 percent of children involved in child labor have been victims of some form of abuse and more than 28 percent of children involved in child labor work night shifts.
